Hybrid Learning

Dorset College continues to adhere to the government’s guidelines on protective measures required to be in place in order to combat the COVID-19. These protective measures mean that our classes might be delivered through a Hybrid model in case of new restrictions being put in place.

Hybrid Learning combines face-to-face instruction with live online learning. In the context of the coronavirus social distancing recommendations, a hybrid model reduces the number of students in the building, by moving some of the course delivery online.

Entry Requirements

Under the new Common Points Scale for Leaving Certificate 2020 applicants must obtain a minimum of 5 O6/H7, including a language and a minimum of O6/H7 in Mathematics.   A QQI level 5 Major Award in Information Technology

International Applicants, who have not applied for access through the CAO, must furnish an equivalent qualification that is certified by NARIC Ireland.

English Language Requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0/ B2+ CEFR or equivalent. (For candidates whose first language is not English)
  • IELTS 5.5 (Attendance at In-Sessional English required)

The following meets the entry requirements:

PTE Academic computer-based English language test
PTE test 50 points  =  IELTS 6.0

TOEIC - 700-720 points is equivalent to an IELTS 6.0

Mature Applicant (i.e. over 23 and older) Applications will be individually assessed in order to determine suitability through the Dorset College Recognition of Prior Learning Policy.

Assessment & Award

The Bachelor of Science in Computing is a three-year Level 7 qualification awarded by Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

Assessment Method
A combination of module-appropriate assessment methods will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes on the course including group work, presentations, examinations, and project work.


  • QQI BSc in Science in Computing Level 7 (180 ECTS)
  • QQI Higher Certificate in Computing Level 6 (Exit Award) (120 ECTS)
