Entry Requirements

General Entry Requirements

International Applicants who are applying directly to the college must submit equivalent qualifications meeting the basic matriculation requirements below that are certified by NARIC Ireland. Link here.

Basic Matriculation Requirements: All applicants must meet the basic matriculation requirements of a minimum of 5, O6/H7 grades, including a Language and and a minimum of O6/H7 in Mathematics.

FET Applicants must hold a QQI level 5 Major Award in Information Technology.

English Language Entry Requirements (For candidates whose first language is not English):

  • IELTS 6.0/ B2+ CEFR or equivalent.
  • PTE Academic computer-based English language test.
  • PTE Test 59 points is equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
  • TOEIC - 700-720 points is equivalent to an IELTS 6.0.
  • Candidates whose first language is not English may be required to sit the Dorset College English Competency Test.

  • Can understand extended speech and lectures, even on complex topics, provided the subject matter is familiar.

  • Can read articles and reports on contemporary problems with a reasonable degree of complexity and understanding.

Please Note: For mature applicants (i.e. age 23 and older), applications will be individually assessed in order to determine suitability through Dorset College’s ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ policy.

 

Assessment & Award

The Bachelor of Science in Computing Degree is a three-year Level 7 qualification awarded by Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

Assessment Method
A combination of module-appropriate assessment methods will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes on the course including group work, presentations, examinations, and project work.

Award

  • QQI BSc in Science in Computing Level 7 (180 ECTS).
  • QQI Higher Certificate in Computing Level 6 (Exit Award) (120 ECTS).
