General Entry Requirements

A Level 7 business qualification or a Level 8 qualification in any other discipline or equivalent with relevant work experience is required for this programme.

Mature applicants who are over 23 years of age on January 1st (year of entry) may be deemed eligible to take the course depending on their prior learning and work experience, general education standard, and commitment to the course.

English Language Requirements

Candidates whose first language is not English may be required to sit the Dorset College English Competency Test.

The following meets the English language entry requirements for this programme:

  • IELTS 6.0/ B2+ CEFR or equivalent.
  • PTE Academic computer-based English language test.
  • PTE Test 59 points is equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
  • TOEIC - 700-720 points is equivalent to an IELTS 6.0.

  • Can understand extended speech and lectures, even on complex topics, provided the subject matter is familiar.
  • Can follow TV programmes and films with standard dialect and some variation.
  • Can grasp nuanced meaning and some implicit ideas in conversations and discussions.

  • Can read articles and reports on contemporary problems with a reasonable degree of complexity and understanding.
  • Can understand specialised texts related to their field of study/work with some effort.
  • Can follow narratives in fiction, recognising different viewpoints and inferred meanings.

Spoken Interaction

  • Can interact with native speakers fluently and spontaneously, requiring minimal effort from either party.
  • Can take part in extended discussions, supporting their points with relevant arguments.
  • Can express ideas clearly and in detail, including hypothetical and abstract concepts.

Assessment, Awards and Learner Protection

The Bachelor of Business (Hons) in International Business Degree is a one-year Level 8 qualification awarded by Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI).

A combination of module appropriate assessment methods will facilitate the assessment of learning outcomes on the course including group work, presentations and business reports.
