This Management & Leadership Building module will get you involved in the latest discussions and trends in management and leadership. You’ll explore modern ideas on what makes great leadership and effective management in today’s business world. By understanding these current best practices, you'll be better prepared to contribute to management and leadership roles in your future career.

Indicative Syllabus Content

The meaning of leadership:

  • Leadership versus management leadership roles; Personality traits, motives and characteristics of effective leaders

Leadership styles:

  • Traditional leadership styles; Charismatic leadership; Transformational leadership
  • Effective leadership behaviours and attitudes

Effective leadership behaviours and attitudes

  • adaptability, continuous learning, and empathy
  • active listening, providing constructive feedback, recognizing achievements
  • fostering a positive work environment
  • openness to change, resilience, and a focus on developing others

Contingency and situational leadership

  • Contingency versus Situational Leadership

Power and politics

Upon successful completion of this module, the learner should be able to:

Reassessment Opportunity

Where the combined marks of the assessment and examination do not reach the pass mark the learner will be required to repeat the element of assessment that they failed. Reassessment materials will be published on Moodle after the Examination Board Meeting and will be aligned to the MIMLOs and learners will be capped at 40% unless there are personal mitigating circumstances.
