Springboard +

What is Springboard+?
Springboard+ is a higher education initiative, offering free and subsidised courses at certificate, degree, and masters levels, with an emphasis on qualifications in those areas where employment opportunities and skills shortages have been identified. The initiative is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Social Fund as part of the ESG programme for employability, inclusion and learning 2014-2020. The Higher Education Authority manages the program on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

Who is Springboard+ for?
The Springboard+ initiative is designed to support those who are returning to employment, and improve the skill sets of those already in employment.

Springboard+ applicants must apply on the basis of being in one of the following three categories:

  2. Unemployed: Not currently working, receiving a qualifying Social Welfare payment (unless formerly self-employed), and actively seeking employment.
  3. Returner: Homemaker, caregiver, or economically dependent on partner/spouse for at least 9 of the previous 12 months.

For further clarification on eligibility and entry requirements, please consult the relevant sections for Employed, Unemployed, and Returners on the official Springboard+ website.

Please note that places on Springboard+ courses are limited and, as such, applicants on a qualifying Social Welfare payment always take priority over other applicants.

What is the Purpose of Springboard+?
In addition to supporting those who are entering back into employment, and improving the skill sets of those already in employment, the overarching aim of the Springboard+ initiative is to build a supply of qualified graduates who can meet current and future economic needs.
