What is Springboard+?
Springboard+ is a higher education initiative, offering free and subsidised courses at certificate, degree, and masters levels, with an emphasis on qualifications in those areas where employment opportunities and skills shortages have been identified. The initiative is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Social Fund as part of the ESG programme for employability, inclusion and learning 2021 - 2027. The Higher Education Authority manages the program on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

Who is Springboard+ for?
The Springboard+ initiative is designed to support those who are returning to employment, and improve the skill sets of those already in employment.

Who is Eligible for Springboard+?
In order to take a course through Springboard+, you will need to meet the following criteria as outlined on the official Springboard+ site:

1. be living fulltime in the Republic of Ireland
2. have your own, valid PPS Number
3. meet the nationality/visa requirement

    1. You are an EU/EEA/UK/Swiss national or:
    2. You have permission to remain in Ireland as a family member of an EU citizen or;
    3. You have Stamp 4 or Stamp 4 EU FAM on your GNIB residence card or;
    4. You have official refugee status in Ireland / are here on the basis of refugee family reunification or;
    5. You have been granted Humanitarian Leave to Remain in the State (prior to the Immigration Act 1999) or;
    6. You have permission to remain following the Minister’s decision not to make a deportation order

4. Have lived in either the EU, the EEA, the UK or Switzerland for at least 3 out of the last 5 years

    1. If you are a Stamp 4 or Stamp 4 EU FAM holder, residency is calculated from the date you received your stamp. Any time before this cannot be counted.
    2. If you have refugee status in Ireland, residency is counted from the date you applied for International Protection.

Springboard+ applicants must apply on the basis of being in one of the following three categories:

  1. Employed: Working for yourself or someone else.
  2. Unemployed: Not currently working, receiving a qualifying Social Welfare payment (unless formerly self-employed), and actively seeking employment.
  3. Returner: Homemaker, caregiver, or economically dependent on partner/spouse for at least 9 of the previous 12 months.

Please note that places on Springboard+ courses are limited and, as such, applicants on a qualifying Social Welfare payment always take priority over other applicants.

What is the Purpose of Springboard+?
In addition to supporting those who are entering back into employment, and improving the skill sets of those already in employment, the overarching aim of the Springboard+ initiative is to build a supply of qualified graduates who can meet current and future economic needs.

All Springboard+ applications must be made online at the official website (https://springboardcourses.ie/).
