Upon successful completion of this module, the learner should be able to:

Insert data and charts into spreadsheet documents, and apply formatting in a way that recognises good practice and improves productivity.

Apply functions, formulas and operators as part of a spreadsheet workflow.

Review spreadsheet documents and prepare them for print output.

Design, create, and populate new database documents using best practice.

Search, retrieve, manipulate and catalogue data in a pre-existing database document in an efficient and productive manner.

Reassessment Opportunity

Where the combined marks of the assessment and examination do not reach the pass mark the learner will be required to repeat the element of assessment that they failed. Reassessment materials will be published on Moodle after the Examination Board Meeting and will be aligned to the MIMLOs and learners will be capped at 40% unless there are personal mitigating circumstances.

Aims & Objectives

The aims of this computer Applications module are to enable the learner to advance their knowledge and skills of prominent spreadsheet software.    Familiarity with the capabilities offered by spreadsheet software, and the ability to leverage such capabilities, is an important tool within contemporary business.

  • Provide learners with these important business skills.
  • Competently use spreadsheets and databases in a given scenario.
  • Embed functions and processes into a spreadsheet or database to more efficiently complete a given process.
