What is evidence-based practice?

  • Making decisions based on ‘effective thinking’ and sound evidence;
  • Analysis tools and methods used in people practice including questioning and checking validity of sources and validity of ‘evidence’
  • Principles of critical thinking.
  • Ethical perspectives: theories of ethics.

Analysis tools and methods:

  • How to identify key insights into a people practice issue.
  • Decision-making processes
  • Measures of work and people performance calculations and how to collate key findings.

Professional behaviours and valuing people (Core)

This Module examines:

  • The CIPD Profession Map and the concept of ‘professional integrity’.
  • Recognise how personal and ethical values can be applied in the context of people practice.
  • How to take responsibility and how to recognise when and how you would raise matters which conflict with ethical values or legislation.
  • How to reflect on your own approach to working inclusively and building positive working relationships with others.
  • Explore how the role of a people professional is evolving and the implications this has for continuing professional development; how CPD activities impact on personal behaviour and performance and formal\informal CPD activities.

  • Principles underpinning the curation of learning resources for self-directed and social learning.
  • How to develop guidance which encourages and supports learners to be the curators of resources for one another.

This CIPD Module examines and considers:

  • Factors to be considered when designing learning and development activities including for dispersed workforces and how inclusivity and accessibility can be built into learning and development at design stage.
  • How to identify organisational learning needs and key principles and to conduct key stakeholder analysis to identify areas of need in relation to learning and development activity.
  • Adult learning and motivation theories, for example behaviourist, cognitive, constructivist and social constructivist theories
  • How to design a learning and development solution which addresses and combines identified learning and development objectives.

  • What ‘transfer of learning’ means, its significance in workplace learning and strategies for supporting the transfer of learning from learning and development activities to the workplace.
  • The role of line managers in supporting transfer of learning for their team members, and how learning and development can support them in this.

Digital Learning and Development (Option 1)

This CIPD Module examines and considers:

  • How the development of technology and digital collaboration impacts the design and delivery of learning and development
  • The Risks and challenges posed by technology-based learning and development
  • How to develop engaging learning content to address a specific need. Identifying a clear need
  • How a live online learning activity can differ from facilitation of a face-to-face learning activity and the implications of this
  • The main skills required to facilitate online learning, including reference to your own development plan.

  • Understand technological development in learning and development.
  • Be able to create engaging digital learning content to meet specific purposes.
  • Be able to apply a range of online facilitation functions and techniques to deliver an effective live online Learning activity.

Diversity and Inclusion (Option 2)

 This CIPD Module examines:

  • Diversity and inclusion in organisations for employees, customers and wider stakeholders including barriers to achieving diversity and inclusion;
  • How to develop approaches to strengthen diversity and inclusion within organisational policies and practices.
  • The role of managers and leaders in creating a positive culture
  • How to engender a culture of diversity and inclusion among workers and other stakeholders.

Assessment & Award

Assessment for the Level 5 CIPD Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development Course is employer driven and aimed at real scenarios that learners may encounter in their future career.

  • NOTE: You must be registered with CIPD as a student member for the duration of your course.  If you are not an active member CIPD will be unable to moderate your assessments, provide you with a results or award your qualification.
  • Learners must complete all seven units successfully to achieve the Award.
  • Provisional results will be issued by Dorset College; however, the result that leads to the award of the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development will be confirmed and released after CIPD Moderation.
  • The qualification is not graded and learners will receive a Pass or Fail.

Award (Credit Value: 42 Credits)

CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in Organisational Learning and Development Qualification.
The designation of CIPD Associate Membership and the designation “Assoc CIPD” after your name.

This qualification is equivalent to Level 7 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)  and  Level 5 in the UK's Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
