You may have noticed recently that PMI is branching out. We are focused on expanding our reach to create more value and impact for individuals who make change happen in their organization. Let’s take a brief look at the context for why we have recently broadened our product portfolio—and some of the benefits we believe these offerings will provide to our global community.
We’ve long been best known to many for our gold-standard PMP® certification.
It remains an invaluable differentiator for project professionals around the globe—and we also know that today’s practitioners face an increasing number of complex problems that require new skills, capabilities and experiences to solve. At PMI, we are committed to continually refreshing our portfolio of offerings to serve these needs.
For the past 50 years, our focus at PMI has been on serving those who formally identified as project managers and leaders. These individuals are needed now more than ever to help organizations build back and emerge stronger from the disruption caused by COVID-19. We are committed to continuing to serve this core group of stakeholders with the products, services and offerings they need for career success.
We are also expanding our reach to address the needs of other professionals who may not have “project manager” on their business cards but nonetheless find themselves using projects to turn ideas into reality.
We see enormous potential for enabling impact when we broaden the scope of our reach to include the full range of people we call “changemakers”—a huge cohort of individuals around the globe who wake up each day to figure out how to drive sustained change in their organizations and communities for businesses, people and society overall.
As work is increasingly delivered through projects, more individuals will need to upskill and dive deeper into the art of effective implementation. There’s a clear need that has gone unmet for too long—a single one-stop place for changemakers to access products, content and experiences that allow them to successfully make change happen.
PMI is uniquely positioned to fill this void. Our winning aspiration at PMI is “empowering people to make ideas a reality.” Our Board of Directors put forward this goal several years ago to push our staff and volunteers to think bigger and bolder. Whether we call our vehicle for change a project, product or value stream, it nonetheless requires people skilled at not simply having great ideas, but delivering great results.
