Key skills covered in this programme:
Thirteen modules focused on the practical cybersecurity skills, tools, and tasks used in entry-level IT and security roles.
✓ Threat awareness & detection – recognise malware, phishing, and breach indicators.
✓ Security operations & monitoring – analyse network traffic with Wireshark and interpret SIEM alerts.
✓ Identity, endpoint & Zero Trust – understand endpoint security, access control, and Zero Trust.
✓ Network fundamentals – understand how data moves across networks.
✓ Network security – see how firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access controls work together to protect systems.
✓ Threat intelligence – recognise common attacks and how STIX/TAXII shares threat intelligence.
✓ Encryption – understand how symmetric and asymmetric encryption protect data and communications.
✓ Business continuity – build a basic understanding of BC/DR planning with RTO and RPO values.
What you will be able to do after 13 weeks:
Over the 13 weeks you practise the work that entry-level security roles are built on:
✓ Capture and analyse network traffic – using Wireshark to spot what should not be there.
✓ Security monitoring tools – combine SIEM, IDS/IPS and endpoint tools into a layered defence.
✓ Classify real threats and attackers – assessing the business risk posed by malware and threat actors.
✓ Build a continuity and recovery plan – deciding what an organisation must recover first, and how quickly.
Entry-level roles this course can support:
Graduates are equipped for entry-level security roles, or to add security responsibilities to an existing IT role:
✓ Junior Security Analyst – monitoring alerts and investigating suspicious activity.
✓ IT Security Specialist – managing security tools, access controls and policies.
✓ Junior Network Security Support – assisting with secure networks, monitoring, and access control.
✓ IT Support or Administrator - with security responsibilities – the route many graduates take.
The CPD course was an excellent learning experience, and the tutor helped me develop valuable knowledge and practical skills in cybersecurity. Since completing the course, I have secured a position with a large company in the food production industry, working as an IT Administrator and Cybersecurity Specialist, where I can apply my skills and continue to develop my career in IT and cybersecurity.
