Sustainability for Higher Education Professionals

This Sustainability course will provide learners with the critical components of ESG initiatives and the importance of these for business and society. Given the contemporary and increasing expectations that society has in relation to how businesses behave, the Integration of ESG, Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility have become paramount to the long-term sustainability of businesses.

The indicative syllabus

Environmental Social Governance

Day 1 ESG Key components + CSRD Directive

    • Ethics
    • Legal and Regulations
    • Economic Environment – The business of Climate Change
    • Scoping and Compliance requirements regarding CSRD
    • Net Zero Transformation and future of ESG reporting

Day 2: Ways that ESG contribute to the bottom line.

    • Consumer Appeal
    • Public Relations and Reputation building
    • Strong client and community relations
    • Talent attraction and employee retention
    • Employee morale and boosting productivity.
    • Training and Development for CSRD compliance

Day 3: Business Ethics

    • Ethical frameworks for the workplace
    • Commercial benefits of Ethical Conduct
    • Globalisation, Ethics and ESG

Day 4: The role ESG/CSRD will play as part of an overall Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility framework

    • Evaluation, Effectiveness, and reform
    • Corporate social performance
    • CSRD Applicability Governance and compliance requirements
    • Roadmap and implementation of CSRD reporting

Day 5 Professional Presentation workshop

Final wrap up – Presentations by attendees

Aims & Objectives

The aims of this module are to enable the learner to:

  • Assess contemporary issues, themes, and perspectives around ESG i.e. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directives (CSRD)
  • Gain competence to critique and appraise ESG/CSRD initiatives in Ireland v EU v International and discuss the development of associated initiatives.
  • Evaluate the nature and importance of ESG and CSRD as value adding, linking with the Core values of an organisation and wider society.
  • Understand the ethical issues that arise in Business when examining ESG in today’s business environment
  • Appraise and propose ESG solutions through case studies using appropriate assessment tools and appropriate criteria.
